These “BE WATER” mooncakes were handed out at yesterday’s protest. Inside is a message that reads: “One day we’ll return triumphant, and reunite at the bottom of the cooking pot*.” *Protest area outside the Legislative Council building

There are also thoughtful local people who oppose these tactics and deserve to be heard, but the “this isn’t my HK” line from expats is too much. Was “your HK” not ruined by 7.21 and 8.31, by kids getting their bones broken in detention centres or shot and blinded on the street?

This was the first tear gas grenade fired in Causeway Bay. Seriously, what are they thinking? twitter.com/Ellaovo/status…

#AntiELAB protesters are filling up Central’s Chater Garden yet again today for a rally calling on US Congress to pass the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, a proposed bill to freeze the assets of local officials working against civic feeedoms and to bar them from the US.

Some #antiELAB supporters are saying today’s airport action has already had the intended effect, with Airport Express stations closed and long lines of buses stopped on the highway awaiting police inspections. The police have done their work for them today. (Video via Telegram)

Obviously all eyes have been on Central and Prince Edward tonight but far down south in sleepy Aberdeen hundreds of people are gathering ok the waterfront promenade to chant, watch #HKprotests footage and play with lasers. This place never sees demonstration!

From Telegram: What’s the difference between withdrawing the extradition bill on 9 June and withdrawing it on 4 September? - 3 eyes lost - 2 MTR terror attacks - 2 seriously injured in knife attacks - 8 dead - Over 100 prosecutions - Over 1,000 arrests - Countless injured

This screen-cap from Winter on Fire, coupled with a Ming Pao photo of police searching commuters on a Hong Kong bus tonight, is circulating on Telegram. The subtitles read: “They tried to humiliate him, but humiliated themselves."

This morning police were filmed chasing and tackling middle-schoolers outside Confucian Tai Shing Ho Kwok Pui Chun College in Tai Po, where yesterday around 100 students who wanted to participate in the #antiELAB strike were locked inside a classroom.

There was no warning before police used pepper spray and tear gas. Both journalists and cops were hit with no masks or protection on, and were begging for water. Protesters tried to shield us with umbrellas and volunteer medics cared for everyone effected.

An army of riot police and raptors are chasing protesters down Nathan Road. By the looks of it they may have the protesters outnumbered.

This is deeply bizarre and troubling. Rally-goers in Tamar Park say a police helicopter hovering overhead earlier scattered a fluorescent neon powder over the crowd that sparkles under torchlight, helping more easily identify attendees to this (still perfectly legal) gathering.

Hong Kong students are magic. Change my mind.

Police, many in full riot gear, were deployed to schools across the city today. Uniformed schoolchildren were stopped, searched and intimidated for staging peaceful protests or handing out flyers. A bleak glimpse of Hong Kong under martial law. (Pics via AD, TG, HKUSU Campus TV)

Look at this fleet of supports and kind-hearted strangers trying to get protesters out of the Tsing Ma Bridge toll plaza and #backhome safe.

Except tonight in Hong Kong it’s called Operation #Backhome. Hundreds of driving are offering their protesters changes of clothes and food and drink as well as safe passage home. This is so heartwarming, easily worth the three-hour walk from the airport.

Just 15 minutes into the “Stuck with You” pressure test protest at Hong Kong International Airport and there are already several hundred #antiELAB protesters gathered outside at the airport bus terminus. These things tend not to get serious until a few hours after the start time.
