The communist party is scared now. They are afraid of the power of the people demonstrated in the pro-democracy camp primary election. The CCP is going to suppress the election at all cost. We need to stand firm. #hongkong twitter.com/damon_pang/sta…

I bursted into tears when I saw this picture in a student assembly. The innocent joy on their face makes us heart broken. They should be enjoying their summer with laughters but not fear of rubber bullets and police brutality. Autonomy and democracy to Hong Kong, NOW!

Maybe it's not surprising that The King and The Emperor share similar views. It's just sad to think of how many basketball players are tortured in Xinjiang concentration camps or facing bullets in the frontline of Hong Kong. Authoritarianism is our common enemy. #LeBronJames

Death toll rises with more bloody crackdowns in Myanmar. The world must act promptly and forcefully to stop the military from butchering the Burmese. The world needs more policies to protect global democracy and lives, with real deterrence to the dictators. ACT NOW. #Myanmar

The consequence of sanctions on HK officials: Chief Executive Carrie Lam says that no banks are willing to provide financial services to her. Not even Chinese state banks. Her salary is paid in cash and she can only spend in cash. What does it imply? #StandwithHongKong

I decided to flee to the UK for a greater consensus in the EU on being assertive to the CCP. EU should be in an alliance that sees China as a threat to global democracy and adopts coordinated actions to curb its autocracy. HKers are leading the battle. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

This talk is a reminder: Protest in Hong Kong is not over yet. We fight for democracy and autonomy promised by Beijing in an international treaty. We need to hold China accountable. They have to play by the international rules if they want to joshuareap the benefits. #StandwithHK

THREAD: 1.After the Apple Daily closure, Stand News became the largest free media in Hong Kong. Today, we have witnessed another forced closure with a number of arrests. The message Beijing sends is clear: report in the way that we allow, or end up in jail.

THREAD: 1. In the past few days, some compared the storming to the Hong Kong Legislative Council to the chaos in Capitol hill. It's the WRONG comparison. Several scenes on 1st July 2019, one of the monumental days of the protest movement, can help you tell the differences.

All the democratic campaigners in this picture, who shared the same election platform with me in last primary election, are either in jail or in exile. It sums up the situation in Hong Kong. It's tough, but we never give up. #StandWithHongKong

In #HongKong, 📢Chant #FreeHongKong 🏴Wave #RevolutionNow flag 🗳Participate in #Primaries 🎙Conduct #interviews with foreign media ✍️Tweet to #criticize China all can be seen as “threatening” "national security" and sent to jail for life. Hypocratic #CCP calls it a “free city.”

Hongkongers who genuinely believe in democracy and human rights are with the protestors in Myanmar. Military coup takes away people's legitimate democratic rights and damages the country's interest to benefit a few demagogues. We demand democracy now. #Fightfordemocracy #BeWater

I was there witnessing this Chinese "reporter" from CCTV slapped a helper of the event. It was such a barbarian act and absence of professionalism. UK court did not tolerate that -- she was found guilty. bbc.com/news/uk-englan…

1. On the first day of my #Berlin trip, I met with the chair of European Parliament's China Delegation Reinhard Bütikofer @bueti in front of the famous Brandenburg Gate. I hereby thank MEP Bütikofer for his leadership in the group and constantly supporting the Hong Kong struggle.

1. 47 democratic activists are charged with "conspiracy to subvert state power" and will appear in court tomorrow. All of them are remanded in custody. It's heartbroken to witness such massive persecution. Let me explain what has happened and why it's an insult towards democracy

1. THREAD: I’ve been receiving numerous threats to my personal safety, including messages about murdering me or going after me at Yale, etc. I don’t know where these messages come from but am deeply troubled.

A reminder to all the people living in democracies. Freedoms can be stripped away with an incredible speed that you can never imagined. Stay vigilant.
273
The biggest enemy in democracy is complacency. As a person who suffered from autocracy’s continuous suppression, I am devastated to see so many in the west take freedom for granted. It takes eternal vigilance to preserve it, especially when you are living with it. Be alerted.

The govt says that vetoing budget is a subversive act. The power of vetoing budget is listed in our constitution. The 47 democrats are not even elected. So the govt is charging them, who are unable to commit a "constitutionally legal" subversive act, subversion. CONFUSED.

I hope that we all understand our enemy is not Chinese people, but the Chinese Communist Party. No hatred should be deployed among people. Democracy and autonomy are what we are striving for. Stop labelling the protest as "independent movement". twitter.com/VOAChinese/sta…
