Due to widespread disagreement over the nature of the Underwhere in Super Paper Mario and the exact mechanism behind Mario being sent there, the previous Tweet can no longer be considered factual and thus has been deleted. I apologize for any undue speculation on my part.

At the 1995 Winter Consumer Electronics Show, Nintendo's booth featured Virtual Boy stations offering demos of Mario Clash. The stations displayed a different name for the game, "Mario Smash". This is the only documented instance of this name being used.

Goombas with animal-like paws and ears from a Spanish print advertisement for Super Mario Bros. 3. It is possible that this is an artistic interpretation of Paragoombas and the ears are intended to be wings.

Regarding the most recent tweet: I have been informed by Twitter user @D3rachi about an existing high-resolution version of the Toad render in question, making the tweet factually incorrect. The tweet in question has been deleted.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, the background of Bowser's Galaxy Generator appears to be a gigantic castle hallway (top left). However, this is merely a perspective trick. The hallway and columns are not 3D models, but instead merely a texture covering the inside of a large sphere.

In 1990, a truck toured Canada to advertise the 1990 Nintendo Challenge Championship, the first Canadian Nintendo video game tournament (top), sponsored by PepsiCo. The sides of the truck were decorated with original artwork of Mario smashing through a television (bottom).

Two of the microgames in WarioWare: Twisted involve serving drinks to a person in a dark room. The Japanese version (left column) takes place in a city at night and serves colorful cocktails; this was changed to milk and cola during daytime in the American version (right column).

Left: Bowser's hurt sprite from Super Mario World. Right: the same sprite from the game's Game Boy Advance remake, Super Mario Advance 2. As you can see, Bowser's arms have been recolored, he has been given extra fingers, and his mouth was made to open slightly more.

In the SNES version of Mario is Missing, one frame of the animation of Luigi crossing the road while riding Yoshi is heavily distorted, likely due to being created using a scaling algorithm and not drawn by hand as the other sprites.

The early beta build of Super Mario 64 playable at the 1995 Japanese Shoshinkai trade show featured a minimap of the course displayed in the top right corner of the screen. While scrapped in the finished version, the minimap was included in the remake, Super Mario 64 DS.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga contains an unused background in its files that uses graphics from Wrecking Crew for the NES. I have superimposed a battle scene from the game onto the background to showcase what it may have looked like in-game.

Normally, Mario and Luigi's irises are exactly the same size (top). However, in Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure, Dr. Mario's irises are much smaller than Dr. Luigi's. In addition, Dr. Luigi has specular highlights (shines) in his eyes, while Dr. Mario's eyes do not reflect light.

In Tetris DS, the bottom screen of Puzzle Mode displays a static background of Yoshi looking at the player (top). However, the background is actually made of two parts: an unseen base image of Yoshi looking the other way, which is then covered up with a separate layer.

In 2007, a committee compiled a "game canon" consisting of the ten most important video games of all time, which was used as the foundation of the video game collection at the United States Library of Congress. One of these games was Super Mario Bros. 3.

During the event in Chapter 7 of Paper Mario where Mario must tell Bombette apart from imposters, a shadow can be seen on the floor behind Mario. That shadow belongs to the actual Bombette, who is still following Mario around; merely made invisible as a development shortcut.

In Super Mario RPG, it is possible to enter what is supposed to be a one-way pipe from Land's End to Kero Sewers from the wrong end with exploits. Doing this reveals that the developers foresaw this and gave special dialogue for this scenario to the Shy Away enemy in the area.

In Yoshi's Cookie for the SNES, defeating all four characters in VS. mode unlocks a set of what the game calls "new versions" of competitors. Note that the green Mario-like character is explicitly not Luigi, but a "new version" of Mario.
