Extremely high-resolution renders for New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe reveal that while Toad's and Toadette's shoes look identical from a distance, they are actually made from different materials. The leather of Toad's shoes is covered in wrinkles, while Toadette's is bumpy.

Out of all mainline Mario games, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy rely most heavily on pre-rendered cutscenes, to the point that the data of both games is comprised mostly out of movie files. The data for all of the actual gameplay takes up a fraction of that space.

In Super Mario Sunshine, worried Toads are only worried when Mario approaches, and smile when he is far away. This was not visible in the original release due to the resolution, but the increased fidelity of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars version allows this to be seen on console.
