In Super Mario Odyssey, when Mario is wearing the Diddy Kong Suit, his ears are noticeably larger. Instead of being modeled this way, the ears are dynamically adjusted by the engine. Diddy Kong Mario's model contains "ear bones" (unique to this model) which are scaled up by 139%.

Messages that appear in Donkey Kong Country 2 (left) and Donkey Kong Country 3 (right) when the games detect devices attempting to create unlawful copies of them. Both games use their respective Game Over graphics for the messages.

Decal found on a Viessmann maintenance van in Italy (left) that highly resembles Mario Party 6 official art (right). As most similar instances of copying artwork come from smaller businesses, this is a rare case of a large multinational company tracing Mario art in this manner.

In Super Mario 64, Mario can safely hang off the back ledge of the roof of Peach's Castle bordering the out-of-bounds area (left). However, if Mario pulls himself up in this spot (right), he will immediately lose his hat and die.

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story contains a debug menu, accessible by modifying the game's code. In the Japanese version (left), all entries in the menu are individually labeled. The North American version (right) translates all of them with "no need to translate".

In The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, the back of the Happy Mask Salesman's backpack is decorated with, among others, a Mario mask. Here is a comparison of the mask in the original Nintendo 64 version (left) and the 3DS remake (right).

In Chapter 3 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Mario discovers two characters after their life was drained from them. Bandy Andy has a pained expression. However, when spoken to, he says he thinks he won't make it, during which he briefly changes to a happy expression.

With 1948 triangles, the model for the Menu Toad in the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis is one of the most complex character models on the system. In fact, a typical doubles match with four characters will be less hardware-intensive than simply rendering the Menu Toad.

Level 5-3 of New Super Mario Bros. contains a unique enemy, the Snailicorn (left). Due to the game running at 240p natively, it is hard to make out the details of the model. By increasing the game's internal resolution, we can take a closer look at the Snailicorn's design.

In the Bowser in the Dark World course in Super Mario 64, whenever the Fire Spitter is active, two red pixels can be seen very far away, under the final part of the level. This is the location the fire actually spawns before being teleported to the Fire Spitter one frame later.

In Super Mario Sunshine, the Blooper surfing room in Ricco Harbor uses the secret course "train tracks" skybox, which can be seen by entering first-person view near a wall. The same is true for Corona Mountain, however, this cannot be seen in-game and requires tools to view.

The Toad Shop in Super Princess Peach includes a small "description box" on the bottom of the screen (left). However, it seems to serve no purpose as the description of each of the 33 items sold in the shop is "[name of item], that's what that is!"

In Mario Kart DS, the Waluigi sign on the Waluigi Pinball track is lit from below, so that the top of his "Γ" emblem is too dark to be visible. This is an inventive way to save texture space, as it allows the now symmetrical sign to be halved and mirrored instead of stored whole.

Star Yoshi is a form Yoshi can take in the game Yoshi for NES and Game Boy. It is simply Yoshi with a star floating next to him (left). However, a manga based on the game reimagines Star Yoshi as a giant Godzilla-type monster (right).

Sprites for an unused bird found in the data of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Since the sprites are next to Broque Monsieur in the code, it is possible that these birds were intended to be collectible in an early version of the game, as Blitties are in the finished game.

In the Toad Harbor track in Mario Kart 8/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a Peach statue in the style of the Statue of Liberty can be seen across the water (left). It is not possible to get close to it in-game; however, extracting the model allows us to see it more clearly (right).
