This is probably gonna get flattened in the already tiring AI discourse going on but I think it’s worth focusing on what Miyazaki actually took offense with here—not the technology, but the intent behind it. It’s further compounded by the silence that followed Suzuki’s question twitter.com/TofuPixel/stat…

I present the first 4 pages of an incredibly silly comic that is close to my heart

This is a comic about a guy who lives in an AI generated world with an AI drawn girlfriend who tries hard to overcome her tendency to have effed up hands and eat ramen in increasingly horrific ways The MC’s name is 手垣 (Tegaki), which sounds like the word for “hand drawn” LOL twitter.com/h071019/status…

What is your goal (the Japanese is literally, “where are you planning for this to lead to?”) Silence, followed by “we want to make a machine that can draw like a human does”. No talk about the message or intention behind that goal. No whys. No becauses. Just an end point.

This tweet is polling opinions about what age people believe one should stop cosplaying bc it’s a question they often see others wrestling with. The replies of full of older cosplayers (some 50+) showing off their work and recounting how they never stopped or started late 🥺 twitter.com/emoma_cosplay/…

And I think that’s where a lot of the frustration is coming from. Because a key part of art comes from those questions of “why”, and those answers of “because”, and an active choice to create something for a reason, not just to see how far it goes.

This is the key difference between technology and art, and it’s frustrating to see them conflated with each other because ideally, technology is there to aid or elevate art, and that requires thought and intention and humanity.

The serialization of my manga has begun! It's called 爆死して乙女ゲーに転生したので推しルートを攻略します!or "I Bombed a Pull So Bad it Yeeted Me into an Otome Game, so I'm Gonna Clear My Best Boy's Route!" (unofficial TL). "Bakuten" (爆転) for short!

the wrong kind of representation in an otome game

I put off saying anything in the hopes it might come back again, but since it’s ending and I’ve long since moved on, let me publicly pay my own respects (F). For those who don’t know, I was the head localization editor in the game’s first year. This was truly a dream project. twitter.com/MankaiCompanyE…

Art imitates life and thus always requires observation and interest from the creator. If the men who created those models bothered figuring out *why* and for *what reason* (aside from “this looks gross and creepy”) they made that model, maybe a real conversation could’ve been had

Y’all don’t know how many English speakers within Japanese game companies have fought battles so some of the characters you love to this day don’t have incredibly stupid sounding names

Last summer, I achieved my dream of making my pro mangaka debut in Japan through LaLa! Here's the 1st ch of comic, 爆死して乙女ゲーに転生したので推しルートを攻略します!or "I Bombed a Pull So Bad it Yeeted Me into an Otome Game, so I'm Gonna Clear My Best Boy's Route!". Enjoy!

I just want you to know that getting Kazuki "Hakuouki" Yone to illustrate for the shitpost of an anime that is Pop Team Epic is the kind of energy I want to give with anything I create. Thank you

I feel like as the word "joseimuke" has spread over the years, the meaning has started to get a bit muddled so I wanted to try to explain how broad a term it really is.
19
No, DeepL, that is not what that word means This is why I say DeepL is even more dangerous than Google translate, because it makes completely natural sentences that are completely wrong

idolish7 is a story about pop stars

Hello! I'm a black woman living in Japan who works in translation and just officially debuted in the manga industry! I mainly draw humorous and/or lighthearted shoujo manga. This thread has past works I've done!

What cracks me up about this is that it’s a cover of a cover of a Eurobeat song about the USA that became a meme in Japan like 2 years ago and relaunched the career of an old Japanese music group because of the cover Enstars is now covering twitter.com/ensemble_stars…

I’m going to break down the process of working on manga in Japan just because I got a few questions/realized that certain things I take for granted aren’t as universally known as I thought. Let’s start with what sort of job category it falls into:

(And yes, I was the one responsible for “if you catch a cold you’re gonna catch these hands” among others, and that line is STILL one of my favorite translation accomplishments to this day)

BIG NEWS!!! I won the second highest award in the contest I submitted my isekai comic to and now am set to debut in LaLa!!! I can’t believe it…it’s been my dream for so long and now it’s finally happened 😭😭 Thank you all so much for cheering me on!!
