On January 6, 2021, CNN had a chyron calling Trump's January 6 speech a "desperate coup attempt." And now the guy who funded that event owns CNN.
27
I feel like it should be a bigger deal that one of the biggest financial stakeholders in CNN donated to a Trump PAC that was created specifically to try to overturn the election. Why isn't it?

And whoosh, January 6 funder John Malone had Harwood disappeared twitter.com/leahmcelrath/s…

Except I think the sad thing here is that John Malone doesn't actually care about whether CNN makes money. He just knows it is worth keeping for his political propaganda purposes, to try to elect Republicans. twitter.com/tomtomorrow/st…

Anyone with a shred of integrity who works at CNN should be loudly speaking out about what's happening. It might hurt your career, but it'd be the right thing to do. Show some bravery, people. Otherwise, you're just helping the rise of fascism.

One of the few people at CNN worth paying attention to, sadly, is now headed out the door. John Malone's Newsmax-ification of CNN continues. twitter.com/JohnJHarwood/s…

If you're going to do this, then go the extra mile, guys. There, I improved it twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

The "lol, I just created a narrative and now I'm reporting it out as news" smirk is obnoxious

CNN is a right-wing media outlet. CNN has always leaned to the right (just look at the below list of paid contributors from this recent piece I wrote), but since John Malone installed Chris Licht, it's taken a sharp right turn. readtpa.com/p/what-liberal…

Also, ever notice that journalists are routinely punished for offering opinions on important things, but wild "yeah troops! woo! troops! let's go bomb some countries! yeah!" stuff is always welcomed and allowed on air, never treated as a form of bias (even though it is)?
36
This is going exactly how I predicted it would (see thread). And it's not because I'm in any way insightful, but because the people who work in corporate media are SO predictable: twitter.com/ParkerMolloy/s…

As @zpleat points out, this is *exactly* what Fox has always done: offer an opinion, then "report" the opinion that they put into the world as though it just emerged out of nowhere. From 2011: mediamatters.org/sean-hannity/f…

This is not how "news" is supposed to work. This is everything wrong with "news." @brikeilarcnn is just one of John Malone's propagandists. CNN has always been biased in favor of the right, but lately it's been taking a HARD right turn, veering into Fox/OAN/Newsmax territory.
39
I think this is a PERFECT screenshot, and it shows EXACTLY what's wrong with the press right now: @brikeilarcnn was one of the loudest voices CREATING this criticism, and now she's REPORTING that "Biden faces criticism over Marines in backdrop of speech." YOU did that.

John Malone controls CNN. He also donated to the Trump "Save America" PAC that was formed after the 2020 election specifically to help Trump try to cling to power. When CNN says "neutrality," they mean "even more biased in favor of the right." CNN has always been center-right. twitter.com/perrybaconjr/s…

@jeffzeleny You're such a liar
42
Here was @brikeilarcnn covering that 2019 speech. Didn't say anything about the Marines. Go figure! twitter.com/Acyn/status/15…

CNN is controlled by John Malone, a man who donated to Trump's "Save America PAC" (which was formed after the 2020 election to help Trump try to illegitimately cling to power). Just in case it's not clear what's happening over there lately.

Pundits: "It's bad when either side does it!" Cool. So why is it that you only make a point of calling that out when one side does it, then? Pundits:

This photo is from a speech in which Trump accused Democratic members of congress of hating the country, but sure thing. twitter.com/brikeilarcnn/s…
47
My guess is that Biden's speech will be him saying a bunch of objectively true things... that the press will spend the next 24 hours debating whether or not it broke with his message of "unity."
48
Aside from him framing it in a "forward"/"backward" way, these are objectively true statements about what the GOP stands for. twitter.com/AaronBlake/sta…

Oz is now smearing two people who were wrongly convicted of murder, in case you're curious how his campaign is going. twitter.com/DrOz/status/15…

It really bothers me how outside of people at progressive media watchdogs like @mmfa, not many people seem all that concerned about the right-wing effort to terrorize children's hospitals. twitter.com/abughazalehkat…
