oh god, I think this is a really bad piece of reporting. I can't wait to see Ancient Aliens, William Shatner, and other nutty people fixate over this for several years. It's a natural geological formation, not manmade.

I know I might be stating the obvious here, but this has been a godawful Pride Month

I love these painted frescos from Pompeii because they illustrate just how colorful and vibrant Roman buildings and architecture would have been. I think too much stuff in pop culture makes the ancient world seem colorless and bland

I love the fact that Renaissance executioners literally sent their kings and lords bills for the executions and mutilations they did "Look, I ain't putting out a guy's eyes or cutting off fingers for free. That'll be 1/2 a florin per mutilation. Thank you very much."

Keith Henderson's 1922 depiction of the death of Montezuma II is still unmatched in my mind.

These maps are a really interesting insight into JK’s understanding of other cultures. Castelobruxo’s architecture is clearly Maya-inspired, but she puts it in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest for some reason which is on the completely wrong continent lol

Fun fact, one of the largest battles to occur in North America before the colonial era (on record) was probably the Battle of Tlaximaloyan which took place between the Aztecs & Matlatzinca in ~1476 CE. There were 24,000 Aztecs against 40,000 Matlatzinca.
