Today marks 36 years since the #Chornobyl nuclear power plant accident, the most severe in the history of nuclear power. I'm here to pay respect to the victims of the nuclear accident and to all those who work tirelessly to rebuild and protect this place.
28
I was honoured to meet the #Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant staff and personally thank them for their resilience and courage during such extremely difficult times. They have my and @iaeaorg's full respect and admiration: they are heroes.
29
.@iaeaorg is here in #Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant to deliver equipment, conduct radiological assessments and restore safeguards monitoring systems. #Ukraine updated the IAEA on the current nuclear and radiation safety, and security situation of 🇺🇦 nuclear installations.
30
Honoured to meet 🇺🇦 President @ZelenskyyUa for a thorough discussion on the safety and security situation at Ukrainian nuclear facilities. I assured him that @iaeaorg will continue to support #Ukraine.

32
We're working to send an expert mission to #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant. The biggest NPP in Europe is currently disconnected from @iaeaorg safeguards communications systems. #Ukraine requested us, we will go there.
33
The @iaeaorg team must go to Zaporizhia just as we did to Chornobyl and South Ukraine earlier in the year. We can put together a safety, security and safeguards mission and deliver the indispensable assistance and impartial assessment that is needed.
34
I’ve told #UNSC today that the situation at #Zaporizhzya NPP was alarming. Military actions jeopardizing nuclear safety and security must stop immediately. An @iaeaorg mission would allow us to carry out needed technical activities and provide a stabilizing influence.
35
The day has come, @iaeaorg's Support and Assistance Mission to #Zaporizhzhya (ISAMZ) is now on its way. We must protect the safety and security of #Ukraine’s and Europe’s biggest nuclear facility. Proud to lead this mission which will be in #ZNPP later this week.
36
I am finishing my first visit to #Ukraine’s #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant.
@iaeaorg is here to stay and will maintain a continued presence at #ZNPP.
37
Back in Vienna after @iaeaorg’s Support and Assistance Mission to #Zaporizhzhya (ISAMZ). Very grateful to my wonderful team and especially to @UN and SG @antonioguterres, for his support and @UNDSS and @UN_OpSupport for their indispensable role in this complex operation.
38
I have just addressed the #UNSC and launched a proposal to create a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) in #Zaporizhzhya. This is based on the findings from our mission to the power plant there, outlined in our new report. bit.ly/3RkPbao

Shelling has caused a complete blackout in #Enerhodar and compromised the safe operation of the nearby #Zaporizhzhya NPP. This must stop & a Nuclear Safety & Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) agreed immediately. An NPP can never be a pawn of war. bit.ly/3ROLXvx
40
Excellent to meet 🇫🇷 President @EmmanuelMacron as part of the establishment of a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) at #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant.
🙏 #France, thank you for your support and endorsement.
41
In-depth exchange w/ @MoEnergy_Saudi Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud at #IAEAGC. Discussed #SaudiArabia nuclear power program perspectives, capacity-building, & #SMRs potential. 🇸🇦's an important partner for @iaeaorg, I look forward to building on this important partnership.
42
I welcome the release of Ihor Murashov, Director General of #Ukraine’s #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant; I have received confirmation that Mr Murashov has returned to his family safely.
43
On our way to Kyiv for important meetings. The need for a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) around #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is now more urgent than ever.
44
Excellent meeting w/ 🇺🇦 @ZelenskyyUa on the current situation. I reiterated @iaeaorg will continue to be guided by int'l law & we made progress towards a nuclear safety & security protection zone at #Zaporizhzhya NPP. I'll return to Kyiv soon to continue this important exchange.
45
The resumption of direct shelling, hitting #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant’s sole source of external power, is tremendously irresponsible. #ZNPP must be protected. I will soon travel to 🇷🇺 Russia & again to 🇺🇦 Ukraine to agree on a protection zone. This is an imperative. twitter.com/iaeaorg/status…
46
Our team at #Zaporizhzhya confirms the offsite power line lost yday was restored & #ZNPP is reconnected to the grid—a temporary relief in a still untenable situation. A protection zone is needed now. I will travel to 🇷🇺 & will see 🇺🇦@ZelenskyyUa thereafter to establish the zone.
47
Our team at #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant informed me this morning that the plant has lost all of its external power for the 2nd time in five days. Its back-up diesel generators are now providing electricity for its nuclear safety and security functions.
48
This repeated loss of #ZNPP’s off-site power is a deeply worrying development and it underlines the urgent need for a nuclear safety & security protection zone around the site.
49
UPDATE—I've been informed by our team on site that external power to #Zaporizhzhya NPP is restored. #ZNPP's operator says this morning's outage was caused by shelling damage to a far off sub-station, highlighting how precarious the situation is. We need a protection zone ASAP. twitter.com/rafaelmgrossi/…

As agreed with 🇺🇦 President @ZelenskyyUa, after my meetings in St Petersburg I am coming back to Kyiv. The work on the establishment of a nuclear safety & security protection zone around #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant continues.
