‘Shaun Of The Dead’ opened 18 years ago in the UK today. If you saw the late performance in the Odeon Camden Parkway on opening night, know that Simon and I were sitting anxiously in the back row to see how it played x twitter.com/thomasduke98/s…

Rewatched ‘Delicatessen’ last night for the first time in a few years and, my word, the further you get away from it, the more magnificent it becomes. Such a well made, brilliantly constructed and funny film. One of the best debut features of them all.

The 15th anniversary of 'Grindhouse' must mean it's also a happy 15th of the trailer 'DON'T' (Based On The Terrifying Bestseller). Shot on 35mm and then kicked around the edit parking lot to achieve authentic scratches and dirt. Perhaps the most fun I've had shooting anything?

Was thrilled to totally immerse myself in the blood and lava flows of THE NORTHMAN last night. Robert Eggers’ Viking revenge epic is magnificently made on a huge canvas, but still has all the meticulous craft & wild imagination of his earlier films. See it on the biggest screen.

I'd have liked to see Samuel L Jackson and Liv Ullmann get more than just a cursory mention for their lifetime achievements, let alone Elaine May & Danny Glover who got nothing. I hope I'm not alone in wanting a show with more context and celebration of nominees and winners. 2/3

Many award shows (the recent BAFTAs too) just feel like they can barely be bothered to talk about the films of the year or the past and treat the honourees as adjacent to a variety show of celebrity links & sketches. If this makes me a hopeless nostalgic, so be it. Rant over. 3/3

To talk about something other than the Oscars slap, it still sticks in my craw that most winners had far less time than presenters (does everyone need to do banter?). I didn't like seeing Ryusuke Hamaguchi played off three times. And call me old fashioned but... 1/2

Happy 50th Birthday to @nickjfrost who is to anyone that knows him, the funniest & sweetest person on the planet and who can reduce me to schoolboy giggles all day long. Have loved knowing you for nearly 25 years now and am proud to call you a friend. Have a great day, Big Daddy.

Utterly transported by the @Daniels 'Everything Everywhere All At Once', a emotional rollercoaster of action, comedy & metaphysical mindfuckery that hits a sugar high for its entire running time. If you complain about a lack of original films and don't see it, you're a fool. 1/3

Just back from a matinee in London of Ti West's 'X'. Any self respecting horror fan needs to run to see it this weekend. Such a fiendishly entertaining spin on a slasher film; funny, shocking, transgressive, a total blast. The cast are all great, but Mia Goth is unreal. Go see.

Next year there should be a new Academy Awards ruling for Best Song. If the song that wins is not superior to Queen's 'Princes Of The Universe' from 1986's Highlander, then the Oscar is thereby given to 'Princes Of The Universe' from 1986's Highlander.

I know the Academy is in a tough position with ABC who apparently ordered them deliver a shorter show, but no-one who tunes in to watch the Oscars is doing so on the promise that it might end 30 minutes earlier. I say, show all the categories, that's where the magic happens. 4/5

I've seen some people say 'It's okay to bump the shorts', ... but frankly, those winners are frequently the stars of tomorrow, who will in turn inspire the next generation of film-makers out there watching. I feel it's a mistake to not also let them shine live on the night. 3/5

Others have said it, so I’ll echo the same. I wish the Oscars were awarding all the categories live on the actual show. Film-making IS team work, and we'd be nothing without editing, score, make up/hair, production design & sound. They deserve the same spotlight as any star. 2/5

I’m looking forward to voting in the Academy Awards tomorrow, having watched all the nominees. And while there are real matters of life and death happening all over the world right now, I’d be remiss not to stick up for my crew members who work tirelessly behind the camera. 1/5
