Reminiscing about Arcades being a great place to learn is just a case of Survivorship Bias. The reason why they were full of serious and motivated players was because they were the only ones who stuck around. Way more people got gatekept and lost motivation.

Sp00ky used to let me (and 100+ other dudes) crash at his place almost every week so we could come up to NYC for games. Watching him learn how to stream 13~ years ago inspired me to try it for myself, and led me to where I am today.
