Today I have written to the Prime Minister asking him to refer my ministerial declarations to the Independent Advisor on Ministers’ Interests. I have always followed the rules and I hope such a review will provide further clarity.

The government must do everything it can to deal with the cost of living challenges faced by people in the UK. That’s what the Prime Minister told MPs tonight and he was completely right. Together we will get on with the job and focus on the people’s priorities.

Earlier my representatives, along with US & Canadian counterparts left today’s G20 meeting in Washington as Russian delegates spoke. We are united in our condemnation of Russia’s war against Ukraine and will push for stronger international coordination to punish Russia. twitter.com/david_milliken…

Growing the economy is one of the best ways to help with the cost of living and that’s why I’m pleased today’s figures show the UK economy is continuing to grow. The economy is now bigger than it was before Covid hit, and growing faster than the US, Germany, France, and Italy.

I'm grateful to Sue Gray for her report and I sincerely repeat my apologies for the event I received a fine for. The Prime Minister has apologised and lessons have been learned. I hope we can now move forward and continue delivering for the British people.

We will send a one-off £650 cost of living payment directly to around eight million of the lowest income households. Worth over £5 billion, there will be no need for people to fill out forms – we will send the payment straight into bank accounts.

I’m sad that my colleague and friend @OliverDowden took the decision to resign this morning. We all take responsibility for the results and I’m determined to continue working to tackle the cost of living, including delivering NICs changes saving 30 million people on average £330

The public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously. I recognise this may be my last ministerial job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning. My letter to the Prime Minister below.

Shocked to hear the news this morning about the attack on Shinzo Abe. Violence has no place in politics and my thoughts are with his friends and family.
