For the next five years, homeowners having energy saving materials like solar panels, heat pumps, or insulation installed will pay zero VAT. The relief used to be more generous but the European Courts of Justice required us to restrict its eligibility.

Some have called for the fuel duty cut to last until August. I have decided it will be in place until March next year – a full 12 months. Together with the freeze, this is a tax cut this year for hard-working families and businesses worth around £5 billion.
