“We need to stop focusing on dates and numbers and actually accept and acknowledge the fact that we need to reduce our emissions right now. We can talk about 2030 or 2040 as much as we want. But it is what we are doing now that really matters."

School strike week 121. Tomorrow marks 5 yrs since the Paris Agreement. 5 yrs of inaction and creating loopholes.
We can’t go on like this.
Time to move from distant ”net zero” targets to real zero with binding, annual CO2 budgets starting now.

This is a huge win for the whole climate movement. A big congratulations to the brave Australian teenagers who have achieved this. Of course the action needed is still nowhere in sight, but these court cases are symbolic breaking points that could have huge snowball effects. twitter.com/Reuters/status…

In the German Rhineland, six further villages are planned to be destroyed to expand the largest coal mine of Europe. This is absurd. Today we visited those defending the villages and fighting for the coal to stay in the ground. We are standing with you. #AlleDörferBleiben

Politicians and political partys are lying us straight in the face. There's no party that is doing nearly enough. They're failing us.
Only voting won't be enough. We need to be active democratic citizens to safeguard basic living conditions. See you in the streets September 24th. twitter.com/Luisamneubauer…

Today as always, it’s important to watch out for those who only listen to the uncomfortable truth when it fits in their agenda. To tackle this crisis, cherry picking some aspects, taking things out of context and ignoring the rest will lead us nowhere. It only fuels culture wars.

Some people make it seem as if we’re not doing enough to stop the climate crisis. But that’s not true.
Because to not do enough, you have to do something. And the truth is that we are basically not doing anything apart from “creative carbon accounting” and creating loopholes.1/2

“I think naivety and childishness are sometimes a good thing.” The great thing about youth, she says, is you’re not blinded by realpolitik and the assumption of compromise. “I do think older people make things more complicated than they actually are.”

As long as we don’t treat the climate crisis like a crisis, we can have as many climate conferences and summits as we want, but as it is now it will just be negotiations, empty words, loopholes and greenwash.

"We understand that the world is very complex and that change doesn’t happen overnight. But you’ve now had more than three decades of blah blah blah. How many more do you need?"

It doesn't tell us what to do. It is up to us to be brave and take decisions based on the scientific evidence provided in these reports. We can still avoid the worst consequences, but not if we continue like today, and not without treating the crisis like a crisis. 2/2

Our so-called “role models”indeed have some work to do. Pretty hard to “solve” the climate crisis without addressing this elephant in the room... #MindTheGap #ClimateJustice

It simply means that you are a bit different from everyone else. And in a world where everyone strives to act, think and look the same - being different is truly something to be proud of.
Thats why I’m very proud to be autistic. 7/7

No one says passing 1.5° will be like "being hit by an asteroid". Every fraction of a degree will ALWAYS matter.
But we demand a safe future. And the thought of giving up our targets without even trying - without people even knowing the risks and consequences - is unacceptable.

"More snowfall during winter storms is an expected outcome of climate change. That’s because a warmer planet is evaporating more water into the atmosphere."
This should of course be basic, common knowledge by now, but apparently it isn't...

"Since the Paris Agreement on climate change was signed in 2015, the organisation says on average four activists have been killed each week."
