Golden cicada on a jade leaf, Ming dynasty (1368-1644). This sculpture was discovered in a tomb in 1954: it is the top of a hairpin, belonging to a woman of high rank. The imagery of a cicada on a leaf had a double meaning and was a high compliment paid to beautiful women. .

Great Ziggurat of Ur was built by the Sumerian King Ur-Nammu and his son Shulgi in approximately the 21st c. BC. The ziggurat was a piece in a temple complex that served as an administrative center for the city, and which was a shrine of the moon god Nanna.

Cave paintings of Altamira are dating back between 36.000 and 15.000 years. The colorful ceiling paintings depict wild animals in motion and at rest, including deer, wild horses, and wild boar in addition to bison; they represent a high point of Ice Age cave art.
