We get stronger when we learn from the democratic movements of the other countries. My friend Daeseon Lee had laid flowers on behalf of me and @joshuawongcf on the grave of casualties from Gwangju Democratic Movement. It’s an important incident that the world should remember

Many don't understand the Chinese authority's mentality. Complying with them makes them think that you are weak -- only deterrence can stop CCP's threats.
For them, every policy is for domestic consumption. Don't act in a way CCP can claim a clear victory.

4000 rallied at Parliament Square in London to express our demands for democracy in Hong Kong. The world needs to hold Beijing accountable for destroying our city.
Even though we are forced to leave, we preserve and march on.

In my testimony to the European Parliament, I suggest that the EU🇪🇺 should:
🆘Open more “safe boat” routes for HKers at risk
❌End Extradition treaties with PRC and HK
📝Sanction HK officials
👊Treat PRC as a systemic rival, not a partner when they violate international treaties

//This — China’s bid to reshape the international order to ratify its authoritarian policies at home — is nothing short of an international emergency. ...Countering the CCP’s global ambitions is more than a conventional foreign policy challenge.//

CCP’s espionage activities are everywhere. It’s a big threat to democratic countries. The influence of authoritarianism can easily reach the other end of the world with advanced technologies.
We have to defend our freedom.

4. Don't forget China posed threats in EU backyard in recent years, by challenging EU authority w/ its #BeltAndRoad & 17+1 initiative. EU leaders should cautiously reconsider whether China is a trustworthy partner while it continues to export its authoritarian influence overseas.

//As we approach first of October, which marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, I hope to remind Beijing that: Hearts and minds cannot be simply bought off with heavily-orchestrated ceremonies.//

4. Sentences could pile up. To be honest, I have no idea when the trio could step out of the prison if Beijing pledges to impose the hardest charges on them arbitrarily. Please support them and offer them encouragement, to remind them that they are not alone.

3. I’d be dishonest if I said I could’ve imagined six years ago that, by the time of Hong Kong’s complete destruction under Chinese control in 2020, I’d be so far gone, truly not knowing when I could return home.

3. Also it’s doubtful whether the so-called “change through trade” policy really works. After decades of economic cooperation, #China's human rights situation just worsens, w/ universal values becoming taboos & hundreds of rights lawyers arrested. What are we really changing to?
