Anglophone fandom is especially full of people who like being a fan more than liking the thing itself. This results in discourse centered around how liking certain things makes you look, vs discussions about the thing itself, the qualities of it, how it made you feel etc. twitter.com/RedLightning42…

How to make a good SF movie:
-Get an actually great director and team
-Make it about Ken and Ryu and their enduring friendship and competition
-Make sure they are smoking hot
-DO NOT MAKE THE MOVIE ABOUT LUKE. DONT DO IT. AMERICANS WILL BE OK WITH AN ASIAN MALE LEAD THESE DAYS twitter.com/FilmUpdates/st…

It's really neat that Amano and Toriyama were already two of the wealthiest artists ever by the 90s (based on the quality of their work too!) and yet they kept plugging away at Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest and tons of other stuff that made billions of people happy. twitter.com/MattBodega/sta…

Goku is famously based off of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King and the most famous mythological folk hero in Asia. Lesser known is that Bulma is based off of Tang Sanzang, the monk Wukong swore to protect who would be responsible for SAVING THE SOULS OF ALL HUMANITY twitter.com/MrMcMaster12/s…

Astra Superstars is a 2D fighting game developed and published by Sunsoft in 1998, first for arcades (on Sega's ST-V board) and then 2 months later on the Sega Saturn. It has unique aerial based combat and absolutely GORGEOUS animation! It is BEAUTIFUL.

Remember that scene in Logan where Wolverine is trying to force Professor X to take his meds, but Xavier is having an inconsolable meltdown over how untenable life has become and he screams "THERE'S NO DIGNITY TO THIS." I think about that line a lot. twitter.com/chheplo/status…

I like experiencing art deliberately made by humans. When it comes to dialog, I'd rather experience a series of carefully considered, premade, well written choices with predefined outcomes than throw words at a predictive text generator. I don't think Im weird for this. twitter.com/SHL0MS/status/…

Chirin no Suzu (チリンの鈴) aka Ringing Bell. A Sanrio movie from 1978, based on a book by Takashi Yanase, creator of Anpanman. I say this with zero irony, this is one of the most harrowing gut-wrenching films I've ever seen. And not just for shock value. It goes DEEP. twitter.com/davidcinema/st…

It's so cool that people are getting into Dino Rex (1992) after all these years. Here's some trivia for you. I'm pretty sure the corpulent T-Rex from Dino Rex was inspired by this absolute unit from the 1981 film, Caveman starring Ringo Star. twitter.com/Richmond_Lee/s…

Unironically this. Not only is this the single funniest thing the Joker has ever done, it's also the best characterization I've ever seen of the Clown Prince of Crime, where he will always prioritize going for the laugh over saving his own life. twitter.com/Av3rage_Us3r/s…

TERRIBLE headline/promo text for an actually good video. The issue isn't with rice as a crop, but how farmers burn their fields afterwards to clear them faster. That's the terrible part that needs to stop. Nothing wrong with rice otherwise. twitter.com/AFP/status/164…

I've always thought that Breath of Fire 4 had some of the best sprite art in the world. There's shockingly few animated gifs of the game out there tho, so I made some of my own! Here's the idle animation of the Zaurus. Sprite rip by Barubary, I just compiled the frames into a gif

During the 2000s I would try to explain to English speaking anime/manga fandom how popular Slam Dunk was in Asia and how it popularized basketball among the youth. I was told I was a crazy "weeb" out of touch with reality. Just wanna say that I was right & those dorks were wrong. twitter.com/chinaorgcn/sta…

Alexander Karelin is generally considered the most dominant Greco-Roman wrestler of all time, holding 12 world titles, with 887 career wins & only 2 losses ever. He was likely an inspiration for Zangief. When asked who his toughest opponent ever was, he replied "my refrigerator." twitter.com/HiFightTH/stat…

I'm glad that the create-a-character allows for really unhinged stuff with no regard for balance and all regard for fun and self expression. That's how it ought to be. twitter.com/renorenoaray/s…
