What they're really highlighting is the importance of accessible information. They used to have everything documented in their native language. But for the last 2 decades you really need to know English to develop games (Especially if you're coding!) twitter.com/timeextension6…

The "AI Art" discourse is unironically this IRL twitter.com/axl99/status/1…

Mario does have a clear personality in the games. It's just that he's straightforwardly heroic and earnest. It comes through very clearly in the games too. By "personality" I think they meant quippy and neurotic, which makes him more like your standard CG film/sitcom hero. twitter.com/GoNintendoTwee…

It doesn't matter if Michael B Jordan didn't know that the classic cross counter shot in manga/anime came from Ashita no Joe. What matters is that he felt that punch in his heart and passed it down the line undiluted. twitter.com/Richmond_Lee/s…

By the way this is also how automation affects all industries (not just art, but everything). As work becomes automated, jobs get cut and the people remaining are just expected to do even more (with the aid of automation).

So as more money goes into the Japanese animation industry the profits don't trickle down. Animators aren't rewarded with higher salaries, just more work at the same capped salary.

TLDR: production committees collude to cap budgets so they can remain in control of productions. Even when they get big cash injections from the outside, those don't increase budgets, instead they fund new productions with the same capped budgets.

This is the most detailed yet concise explanation of why Japanese animator salaries always remain low no matter how much the industry grows. Straight from Toshio Okada, cofounder and former president of Gainax and a legend in the field. Must watch if you care about this issue. twitter.com/animatorsuppor…

This isn't an exaggeration. Back then people were regularly calling Japanese games "gay."*
*(not everyone did this. I had tons of cool friends who just loved cool games. BUT, I suffered through A LOT of real life and online discourse about how these Japanese games are "so gay") twitter.com/envinyon/statu…

When people say that "AI art will empower artists" this is what they mean. This tech takes individualistic voices honed by a lifetime of real experiences and reduces them to a party trick. All expression is just grist for the mill of "content." Is this the future you want? twitter.com/Phil_Lewis_/st…

This is spot on and goes way deeper than you might think. It's all about "neoteny," the retention of juvenile features (looks and behavior) in an adult animal. twitter.com/DeltyThe73rd/s…

This is terrible advice for 99.9% of games. Hi-Fi Rush is an Xbox exclusive published by Bethesda and developed by Tango Gameworks, which was founded by Shinji Mikami, one of the most famous and influential game designers of all time. These are very specific conditions!! twitter.com/pcgamer/status…
