Hideaki Anno's father lost his leg in a horrible workplace accident at the age of 16. This left him a bitter man who often took his anger out on his son. What they're really highlighting is the importance of accessible information. They used to have everything documented in their native language. But for the last 2 decades you really need to know English to develop games (Especially if you're coding!) twitter.com/timeextension6…
I like experiencing art deliberately made by humans. When it comes to dialog, I'd rather experience a series of carefully considered, premade, well written choices with predefined outcomes than throw words at a predictive text generator. I don't think Im weird for this. twitter.com/SHL0MS/status/…

Remember how Japanese 3DCG fell behind technically during the Aughts/2010s? This was because Softimage (by far the most popular 3D art app in Japan) was acquired by Autodesk in 2008. They quickly gutted it and stopped supporting it entirely by 2016.
Astra Superstars is a 2D fighting game developed and published by Sunsoft in 1998, first for arcades (on Sega's ST-V board) and then 2 months later on the Sega Saturn. It has unique aerial based combat and absolutely GORGEOUS animation! It is BEAUTIFUL.

1. Manga has been more popular than Marvel or DC comics in the west for decades now 2. Marvel & DC =/= All American comics. Dog Man is one of the best selling books (not just comics) in the US. Americans definitely still enjoy reading American comics! twitter.com/Java_jigga/sta…

It's really neat that Amano and Toriyama were already two of the wealthiest artists ever by the 90s (based on the quality of their work too!) and yet they kept plugging away at Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest and tons of other stuff that made billions of people happy. twitter.com/MattBodega/sta…
This isn't an exaggeration. Back then people were regularly calling Japanese games "gay."* *(not everyone did this. I had tons of cool friends who just loved cool games. BUT, I suffered through A LOT of real life and online discourse about how these Japanese games are "so gay") twitter.com/envinyon/statu…
It's so cool that people are getting into Dino Rex (1992) after all these years. Here's some trivia for you. I'm pretty sure the corpulent T-Rex from Dino Rex was inspired by this absolute unit from the 1981 film, Caveman starring Ringo Star. twitter.com/Richmond_Lee/s…
TERRIBLE headline/promo text for an actually good video. The issue isn't with rice as a crop, but how farmers burn their fields afterwards to clear them faster. That's the terrible part that needs to stop. Nothing wrong with rice otherwise. twitter.com/AFP/status/164…
Alexander Karelin is generally considered the most dominant Greco-Roman wrestler of all time, holding 12 world titles, with 887 career wins & only 2 losses ever. He was likely an inspiration for Zangief. When asked who his toughest opponent ever was, he replied "my refrigerator." twitter.com/HiFightTH/stat…
I don't know how, but at age 5, having just recently moved to the US in the 80s, I could immediately tell that Ducktails and other Disney shows were animated in Japan. It was just so obvious. A🧵... twitter.com/Zerochan/statu…
