i had heard before the "G" name of the cash in splatoon is short for "geso" (japanese word for tentacle) not "gold" but i never found the source until now...the japanese version of badge arcade is the only time this has ever been mentioned. it says the coin is called a "Gesocoin" twitter.com/jogiostar/stat…

obscure Splatoon fact:
there are canonical names AND locations for the two basketball teams we see on jerseys in-game!
on the left is the Okhotsk Uniers, and on the right is the Tasman Lob-Stars. This may imply that there are regions in-universe named after nearby seas.
