I was not prepared for the amount of criticism my music provoked from the British press at the time. The landscape was very different for female artists who did not subscribe to the traditional pop model.

What I’ve learned is that every single album I’ve released has received a lot of criticism but that this is normal when you think unconventionally. Not everyone is open to receiving new ideas. People like safety. People HATED Electra Heart - and now it’s a fan favourite.
