A tale of two Governments. Worth noting that only one of these stories has a likely successful outcome. And it isn’t China giving “unfettered” access to Xinjiang.

This amendment meets all Government’s red lines while giving the UK a mechanism for authoritative genocide determination. Time to breathe some life into the Genocide Convention and stand with the #Uyghur people.

This is the kind of thing at the heart of the UK’s inconsistent and increasingly incomprehensible China policy. January: let’s do import and export controls February: let’s break records on 🇬🇧🇨🇳 trade Someone needs to get a grip. twitter.com/grahamstuart/s…

🇺🇸= China is committing genocide. 🇨🇦= About to declare the China is committing genocide. 🇬🇧= Whipping the life out of MPs to prevent the Government from having the necessary legal basis to say that China is committing genocide. #Lame twitter.com/stevenchase/st…

Facebook profits from genocide denial and blocks news in Australia. Read this investigation and vote with your feet. #Uyghurs twitter.com/richardbath/st…

This is a *huge* challenge to the UK. Chan has a full British passport and is having totally absurd charges laid against him under the National Security Law. Are we really going to allow this to happen to our citizens @UKinHongKong @DominicRaab? twitter.com/XinqiSu/status…

The #GenocideAmendment comes to Australia. Thanks ⁦@ABCaustralia⁩ for shining a light on this.

By my calculations it is 68 days until #AndyLi is released. He was imprisoned 175 days ago. He has done nothing wrong. Thinking of you, Andy. Photo: @andy_is_missing @beatriceyyli

Hong Kong has moved to give the Director of Immigration powers to stop anyone leaving, for any reason. It’s pretty rare for even the most totalitarian regimes to try to prevent people from getting out. Truly shocking. thestandnews.com/politics/%E5%8…

Krish is doing a huge amount to welcome Hong Kong BN(O)s. @pritipatel should establish a BN(O) Commission with people like Krish on it to enable the UK to ensure this unprecedented scheme runs smoothly. twitter.com/krishk/status/…

Hard to believe that this time last year I was with @Stand_with_HK friends at a Lunar New Year celebration 🧧 Feels like another world. #Happyyearoftheox

This is tremendously sad news for the people of China and for the BBC. I hope that BBC journalists will still be able to report from Beijing. twitter.com/qingqingparis/…

Note to self: don’t try to light a cigarette on a windy day with alcohol gel all over your hands.

From the MPs - often courageous in the face of whips’ bullying - to the grassroots campaigners and Uyghur, Yazidi, and Holocaust survivors, this is the best campaign I have ever had the privilege to run. We will get there. 🙏🏼 #GenocideAmendment bbc.com/news/uk-politi…

BREAKING: Government amendment narrowly passes 318 to 303 Now to the Lords, where we will re-insert the courts, and send it back to the Commons so they can actually vote on it. Thanks to everyone working so hard on this. The arc of justice is long!
719
Managing expectations: Government has prevented a vote on the #GenocideAmendment so only one vote counts today: The vote on @neill_bob wrecking amendment. If it passes, we put courts back in when it goes to the Lords. If it fails, we put entire amendment back in the Lords. 👏

Latest: Government *deliberately* tabled their amendment 2nd to preclude the Speaker accepting a manuscript amendment. Now 100% certain this was to prevent a Commons vote on the #GenocideAmendment Whips also going nuts about @LOS_Fisher exposing their bullying. Not a good look.

Worried about losing. But not sufficiently worried about genocide. #GenocideAmendment twitter.com/BBCJLandale/st…

I think we'll be looking at mass abstentions tomorrow. The #GenocideAmendment passed the Lords with a 171 vote majority. The Government is preventing the @HouseofCommons from voting on it at all.
723
BREAKING: there will be no vote on the #GenocideAmendment tomorrow. Even if we beat the Government's wrecking amendment, it will not be possible to "ungroup" the two amendments it seeks to wreck. Two (completely different) amendments. Only one vote.
