Brig. Gen. Erez Gerstein was the commander of the Golani Brigade. He fell in the line of duty in southern Lebanon in 1999. Today his son, Lt. Omer, is an officer in the Golani Brigade. IDF Chief of Staff, LTG Aviv Kohavi, recently met Omer & shared his memories of Omer’s father.

During the Holocaust, Ruth was deported by the Nazis to Auschwitz. She jumped from the train car and avoided the gas chambers. She then joined the partisans and fought the Nazis.  Ruth is now 97 years old. Her granddaughter Opal is an officer in the IDF. Ruth won.
