As Chairperson of @UHRC_UGANDA, Mariam Wangadya has gone from blaming the media for "tarnishing the image of security agencies" by reporting about their human rights violations to saying torture victim exaggerate their ordeal. Now she's trivialising abductions!

This morning, police in Jinja attacked a peaceful gathering of our comrades and injured several of them. They fired teargas and live bullets. Many are in a critical condition. Others were violently arrested. We shall continue to resist the criminal regime. THIS IS OUR COUNTRY.

Just learnt of the violent abduction of comrade #BobiYoung in a drone around Maya. Men in plain clothes waylaid him on the road, dumped him into a drone and drove away. Our lawyers are still establishing his whereabouts. We condemn these wanton actions by the criminal regime.

SHAME!! Like father like son! Having lost all legitimacy, they use our taxes to ferry people whom they have made poor, with promises of little money and t-shirts (because most can't afford clothes). After every event, those stranded are abandoned and have to walk back on foot!

Like every unpopular, corrupt regime, they must rent support in order to survive. But they never survive longer! While they did this, they violently disrupted an event organised by our comrades in Jinja. Many are still in hospital nursing injuries! Why we must fight harder!

The murder in cold blood of Eswatini human rights lawyer #ThulaniMaseko is devastating. Thulani fought hard for justice and the rule of law and paid a heavy price. His shooting in front of his family, is a reminder of the dangers HR defenders continue to face on the continent!

Thulani Maseko has been hailed for his courage in fighting Eswatini’s absolute monarchy. He faced long periods of detention and solitary confinement, but never gave up. The movement for freedom across Africa has lost an incredible icon. May his soul rest in power!

We visited Mulago Hospital to check on Hon. Allan Ssewanyana who has been admitted there in a critical condition since Friday. Unfortunately, the police blocked us from accessing him. The continued persecution of our people is being recorded. Justice will be served some day.

Also paid a visit to our senior comrade Mzee William Byarugaba at his home. Mzee Byarugaba, who heads the @NUP_Ug Elders Wing, has been ill for several months. Encouraged by his commitment to the cause, even amidst these health challenges. Wishing him a full and quick recovery.
