At the #Hankuang36 exercise today, I was glad to see that our reserve forces now play an expanded role. Integrating reserves & standing forces is one of the focal points of our current military reforms, strengthening our defensive capabilities & enhancing national security.

The #HanKuang36 exercise demonstrated to the world our robust defense capabilities & strong determination to defend #Taiwan. The fighting spirit of our men & women in uniform was on full display, with outstanding communication & cooperation during joint operations.

I was saddened to learn that Army Major Chien Jen-chuan & Captain Kao Chia-lung lost their lives in a training accident, & I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to their families. This is a great loss for our military, & we all share in their grief.

My visit to Alishan’s Veoveoana in #Chiayi was fascinating! Beautiful scenery, the indigenous Tsou tribe’s hospitality & handicrafts, the pour over coffee using Taiwan's best high-mountain beans, & the baby Formosan sika deer that I named "Qdeer” all made it a wonderful trip!
