Removing barriers to pork & beef imports is an important step to aligning #Taiwan with the international trade community. I also look forward to working with the #US to further enhance our trade & economic relations in the year ahead! 🇹🇼🇺🇸 twitter.com/WHNSC45/status…

Our city of #Kaohsiung’s New Year celebrations combined technological innovation with #Taiwanese tradition. This boat in the sky symbolises expelling evil spirits & the city’s prayer for a healthier world, as we head into 2021 full of hope.

Say “Happy New Year” to a friend in #Taiwan! Here many of us say “xīnnián kuàilè” (新年快樂) in #Mandarin or “sin-nî-khuài-lo̍k” in #Taiwanese. How do you wish people a Happy New Year in your language?

This New Year’s Day I addressed the people of #Taiwan & had a special message for all our international friends. With your help & support, Taiwan will be an even greater force for good in the world in 2021 & beyond.

The global pandemic is not yet over, so please stay vigilant, wear a mask, & do all you can to protect yourself & those around you. Let’s make #2021 the year we truly put an end to #COVID19.
959
Our Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) & the people of #Taiwan: The CECC kept us all up to date daily with current events & new regulations. Most importantly, our people have been so caring & conscientious. Their commitment is the key to overcoming this challenge.
960
Our national face mask team: They took us from a net importer of medical masks to the second largest producer in the world – from 1.8 million to 20 million masks per day! Their hard work allowed us to donate 50+ million masks to other countries, showing how #TaiwanCanHelp.
961
Our frontline workers: #Taiwan’s medical workers, immigration personnel, quarantine taxi drivers, military & quarantine center workers have worked tirelessly, making great sacrifices for everyone’s health & safety.
962
On this day last year, we first learned of #COVID19 & began our pandemic response.
Before we say goodbye to 2020, let's look back on a challenging year & give those who’ve worked so hard to keep us safe their due. These are the people that deserve our heartfelt gratitude:

2020這一年,大家還好嗎?
今年是相當辛苦的一年,突如其來的全球疫情,打亂了我們每天的步調,改變了每個人的日常生活,衝擊了每個國家的社會秩序。
但還好,我們生活在台灣。我們彼此合作,團結實現了民主防疫的成就,也讓國際看見了台灣這座堅韌之島的特質和能耐。
新的一年,讓我們一切都好。

We must always strive to heal the wounds of our past. This is what drives us in our pursuit of transitional justice for #Taiwan’s #IndigenousPeoples. There is still so much we need to do, so I thank all our indigenous leaders for working with us to build a better Taiwan for all.

Thank you to our frontline workers for their incredible efforts to defend #Taiwan from #COVID19. We owe our safety to you & will continue to stand with you, as this battle is far from over.

Taking our round-island railway is one of the best ways to see #Taiwan, & with recent upgrades, it’s more convenient than ever. I’m always amazed by Taiwan’s scenic beauty, & hope to share it with the world once we’ve beaten the pandemic.

It was moving to take a trip back in time & rediscover some of #Taiwan’s early #ModernArt. I’m inspired by these pioneering artists’ creativity & can see their passion reflected in the young Taiwanese people of today.
