We once again appeal to international experts to avoid using the word “Tatmadaw”. Burmese speakers never use that word to refer to Myanmar military. The word “Tatmadaw” is dynastic era word for “ marching army with the king”. That self-styled word is disgusting and cringey.

Myanmar has the highest absolute number of journalists imprisoned in 2021 and by the look of it, it’s also the highest in terms of per capita. The number 26 is likely a conservative estimate as many citizen journalists were also unlawfully imprisoned.
