Don’t make trouble. The median line of the Taiwan strait is a sign of peace, to deny its existence undermines the status quo. Reckless gestures in the sky and sea cannot become the new normal. Peaceful and equal dialogue is the way forward.

In Taiwan we were able to control the virus with careful contact tracing and strict quarantines. But no one is safe until everyone is safe. Let’s stay focused and get through this together as one human family.

Within 30 years Taiwan has gone from a one-party dictatorship to an open democratic system. The R.O.C. was re-born here. The Taiwanese people made it better, more beautiful, stronger. I am proud to serve as VP and contribute to this ongoing transformation.

Before claiming to oversee human rights issues around the world, China should address its own severe abuses at home and against foreigners. Innocent Taiwanese citizens are being accused of political crimes, sentenced without due process, and imprisoned. This needs to stop.

Chinese representatives acting like angry little emperors is the new normal. The assault of a Taiwanese diplomat in Fiji last week is only the latest example. We will not sink to their level, we will keep doing what we do.

China says they would “consider” joining CPTPP. First they should "consider" honoring international rules and standards. It would be a mistake to compromise regional security with untrustworthy partnerships. This is something we need to seriously "consider".

When signing a trade deal with China you have to be careful. You only see what you can get, not what you might lose. It’s not only about Uyghurs and labor rights, there is something deeper that goes to the heart of democracy. This was a lesson Taiwan learned in recent decades.

China significantly amended its National Defense Law, effective Jan 1st. Taiwan is clearly a target. We will continue to seek a peaceful path, while strengthening our defense. I want to thank the US for its bipartisan support for Taiwan in the National Defense Authorization Act.

China’s crackdown on democracy will not be ignored by the world. More than 50 prominent democratic advocates were arrested today in Hong Kong. This is unacceptable, HKers’ rights are human rights.

Taiwan is a country and a trusted partner, we deserve to be treated as such. We welcome @SecPompeo's decision to lift restrictions on interactions between the US and TW. Normalizing relations with the US and other countries is the wish and best interest of the Taiwanese people.

Today marks the first anniversary since President Tsai and I were elected to serve. Taiwan is beautiful. We hold elections and respect the outcome win or lose. On the front line against totalitarianism, Taiwanese are defending democracy with our lives.

Taiwan and Japan have much in common. We not only suffer earthquakes often, we also face economic and geopolitical threats from a totalitarian power. Like #India, #Australia, #Palau, and other regional partners, #Japan is a solid friend. Friends need to help each other.
