1/ The Job Support Scheme will directly support the wages of people in work, giving businesses who face depressed winter demand the option of keeping employees in a job on shorter hours rather than making them redundant.

1/ Nearly half a million businesses deferred more than £30 billion of VAT this year. Those payments are all due in one lump sum in March. Instead, I’m allowing businesses to 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐕𝐀𝐓 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟏 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, with no interest to pay.

Any of the millions of self-assessed income taxpayers who need extra help, can also now extend their outstanding tax bill over 12 months from January.

An earlier @ITVNewsPolitics tweet falsely suggested I thought people in arts should retrain and find other jobs. I'm grateful they have now deleted that tweet. I care deeply about the arts which is why our £1.57bn culture package is one of the most generous in the world. twitter.com/itvnews/status…

1/ I wanted to take a moment to explain how the Job Support Scheme compares to other countries and how it interacts with UC. JSS not only supports people by paying 2/3 of their salary but for many the remaining drop in earnings will be covered by the welfare system - up to 90%.
