1/ We will support jobs, we will support incomes, we will support businesses, we will help you protect your loved ones. We will do whatever it takes. Today, I am making available an initial £330bn of guarantees – equivalent to 15% of our GDP. Measures include:

Good call with @POTUS 🇺🇸, @Bundeskanzler 🇩🇪, @EmmanuelMacron 🇫🇷 & @GiorgiaMeloni 🇮🇹 this evening. Really pleased they've joined the UK in sending main battle tanks to Ukraine.  We have a window to accelerate efforts to secure a lasting peace for Ukrainians.   Let's keep it up.

Today and forever, we will remember them.

Great call with @JustinTrudeau. As close friends and free market democracies the UK and Canada have a vital role in promoting economic growth and stability, as well as ensuring Ukraine is supported unequivocally.

New Year is a time for optimism, but I know there’s also a lot of apprehension. I am working night and day to change that, and quickly. In a speech tomorrow I will set out my priorities for the year ahead.

My thoughts are with the people of Türkiye and Syria this morning, particularly with those first responders working so valiantly to save those trapped by the earthquake. The UK stands ready to help in whatever way we can.

I have just landed in Bali to join other leaders at the #G20. We need to get on with the job that the G20 was created to do, stewarding the global economy through crisis and putting it back on the path to growth. Together we must take urgent action.

On behalf of the UK, I would like to congratulate @netanyahu on his victory in the Israeli elections. Across areas like trade, security and technology there is a huge amount our countries do together and I look forward to working with the returning Prime Minister.

Good call with @vonderleyen this evening. We have much in common, not least the challenges we are facing with the economy and climate change. The UK and EU will work together as friends and allies to tackle the challenges ahead. I look forward to meeting in person soon.

80 years ago, Parliament listened in stunned silence as the truth of the Holocaust was spoken in the House of Commons for the very first time. Today, in the presence of survivors, we stand together to remember and to reaffirm that truth.

Shocked to hear of the attack on Salman Rushdie in New York. A champion of free speech and artistic freedom. He’s in our thoughts tonight.

This afternoon I met police chiefs to make it clear that they have my full support in acting decisively to clamp down on illegal protests. The public have had enough of this disruption and those breaking the law should expect to feel the full force of it. #PublicOrderBill

I’m here in Germany for this year’s @MunSecConf, joining world leaders like @VP Harris & @Bundeskanzler to discuss security challenges – particularly Putin’s horrific war in Ukraine. I have urged delegates to double down on their military & political support for Ukraine.

Today’s agreement does what many said could not be done. Now is the time to move forward as one country - one United Kingdom 🇬🇧

Wishing the boss @BorisJohnson a speedy recovery. You’re in good hands @NHSuk.

Thank you. For a lifetime of service to our country, for showing us what duty means and for always putting the country and commonwealth first. There will never be another like Queen Elizabeth II. twitter.com/RoyalFamily/st…

1/ The job retention scheme will be extended, for four months, until the end of October. By that point, we will have provided eight months of support to British people and businesses. Until the end of July, there will be no changes to the scheme whatsoever.

I am saddened to learn of the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. He was a great theologian whose UK visit in 2010 was an historic moment for both Catholics and non-Catholics throughout our country. My thoughts are with Catholic people in the UK and around the world today.

Halve inflation. Grow the economy. Reduce debt. Cut waiting lists. Stop the boats. Your priorities are my priorities. I will work night and day to deliver them and build a better future.

Whilst the test and trace pilot is fairly restrictive, allowing only essential government business, I recognise that even the sense that the rules aren’t the same for everyone is wrong. To that end I’ll be self isolating as normal and not taking part in the pilot.

Great to pop down to @wagamama_uk after the statement today. They’ve already bought more than 2,000 staff back from furlough and will be one of the many restaurants to benefit from the VAT cut and ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ vouchers.
