There was a problematic Law&Order episode last week on death of 2 massage workers where @margaretcho played a trafficker.
Like the NYT article about Yang Song, this narrative harms migrant sex workers by shifting blame to exotic “culture” rather than violent policing or poverty.

Seth Myers & his wife support laws like SESTA-FOSTA that kill sex workers.
It’s not the “Equality Model” or “Nordic Model”. Let’s call it what it is from now on. It’s the Deportation Model, the Sex Worker Eviction Model.

One important point to highlight:
You can’t have a universal housing guarantee without full sex work decrim.
Under current “pimp” laws, landlords are charged as pimps. This allows for legal housing discrimination against sex workers, requiring workers to live and work in fear.

Asking for support:
There's another hateful anti-BLM & pro-NYPD march tomorrow 11am in front of the Flushing Library.
We're gathering with other organizers in counter-protest, to stand with BLM against racism & police brutality.
Please join us, as we'll be very outnumbered. twitter.com/yjpc06/status/…

Eight workers in massage parlors have been killed in Atlanta. This is horrific, and is indicative of the violence that massage workers face daily. We are saddened and angered to learn of this, and we are sending our love to the workers in Atlanta.

These deaths somehow mean more because of the rise in anti-Asian violence related to COVID-19, but no mention of how they’re connected to the long policing of Asian sex work, which so many Asian Americans and those speaking up against anti-Asian hate endorse.

We knew this would happen, and are still telling everyone more policing or any policing at all doesn't keep people safe ESPECIALLY Asian and migrant massage workers. twitter.com/Tom_Winter/sta…

Police are arresting, deporting, and killing migrant Asian people. Policing is an unacceptable remedy for migrant Asian communities. Furthermore, the CRC was developed as part of the NYPD’s counterterrorism unit, a “highly trained team of officers ... trained in special weapons." twitter.com/Tom_Winter/sta…

"More cops do not make us feel safer. We need to divest from the police and reinvest resources in community-based safety solutions like we at the Massage Parlor Outreach Project are working toward."
-@emikoyama of the Massage Parlor Outreach Project

“I’m here to tell everyone listening that you deserve to live. You don’t have to prove your worth or your humanity or to fight for your every breath. And it’s so disturbing that we have to beg for our own existence. Beg to be seen.”

“This system is not broken. This system is working exactly as it was designed. It was designed to hurt particular communities and help other individuals keep their power. And we are here to dismantle it and change it forever.”

"This is not a single incident. This incident reflects all the problems of our society, and all the problems that makes sex work and massage parlor work dangerous. The question we have to ask is, how many funerals do we have to attend?"
-Elene Lam, @ButterflyCSW

"Society knows how to fix the problem, but they continue to harm the community because of their moral agenda, their racist ideas. People are killed by sexism, racism, whorephobia, by the state, and by NGOs that claim to rescue sex workers."
-Elene @ButterflyCSW

"This country’s first immigration laws targeted Chinese women because of fears of Asian sexualities. We cannot separate the Atlanta shooting from last Monday’s plane deporting Vietnamese refugees."

"As we mourn the deaths, let us also hold close, the survivors, the injured and those who faced this horror. And let us hold close the vast communities of Asian women who are devastated by fear."
