This is very hopeful and groundbreaking journalism. I urge journalists in countries around the world to do the same research. This is a problem far from unique to so-called “progressive“ countries like Sweden… This is a crucial first step to start addressing the crisis.

"Anticipating future large-scale removals allows for more gradual decarbonization and thereby reduces pressure on near-term emission reduction action." It's very hopeful that this debate is getting more attention and that the awareness is increasing. climatechangenews.com/2021/05/11/car…

The short-term profits of a mining company cannot be prioritised over the culture and rights of the Sámi people, as well as our climate, biodiversity and clean air and water. No matter what the people in power might claim, this mine will not be a part of a “green transition”. 3/4

And a digital solution is of course far from optimal. High speed internet connection and access to computers is extremely unequal in the world. In that case we would lack representation from those whose voices need to be heard the most when it comes to the climate crisis.

The distribution of vaccines around the world is extremely unfair. 85% of vaccine shots have been given in high- and upper-middle-income countries. Only 0,3% have been given in low income countries, according to New York Times. 2/n nytimes.com/interactive/20…

The EU said at COP26 they want to "lead global change to protect our planet". We assume this means the European Parliament will #VoteThisCAPDown next week, as the proposed CAP would be disastrous to the climate and environment and is not nearly in line with the Paris Agreement. twitter.com/WithdrawThisCA…

Could this be true? standardchartered.uk.com/en/media/press… Are @StanChart really saying they will end all financing to any coal-fired power plant across the globe by 2021? Let’s watch their press conference to remind them to #RaiseYourStandards #CleanUpStandardChartered

Here's one of the main reasons why we're still not getting anywhere. When leaders... - Make (insufficient) targets way into the future: Lots of headlines and oh so hopeful! - Get caught not even trying to reach those (insufficient) targets: Silence.

Yes some ghg emissions will need to be balanced out, so calling targets ”net zero” makes sense. But our main concern should be to first actually include all emissions in our targets as well as the aspect of equity while of course making immediate emission cuts at the source. 2/n

To surrender the aspect of equity based on historic emissions and climate justice for low- and middle income countries in order to create goals and targets that high income nations consider to be “politically possible” is not just immoral - it violates the Paris agreement. 2/n

Of course we must use what we have; frameworks, agreements and goodwill. But as this is clearly far from sufficient we cannot be satisfied with that alone. The sense of urgency and action needed is still nowhere in sight. 3/n

It is time to take down the Taskforce on Corporate Scams. Polluting profiteers see offsetting as their “get out of jail for free card” in the climate game. But offsetting is often a dangerous climate lie. 2/5
