The Great Stupa at Sanchi (India) is an early Buddhist monument first constructed 2nd century BC. The Buddha’s anthropomorphic figure is not seen here, and was not used until the turn of the century.

Griffin. 6th century Byzantine mosaic, Great Palace Museum, Istanbul. Destroyed in Nika Riot in the 6th century, the Great Palace was rebuilt by Justinian I. The mosaics, decorating the floors of the museum today date back to that restoration time.

A medieval book mended with silk thread. Parchment was difficult to make and expensive to replace, and so medieval scribes would often find other ways to restore them and help ameliorate further damage.
