The rulers of Commagene, a kingdom founded north of Syria and the Euphrates, left behind several breathtakingly beautiful funerary sanctuaries. Mount Nemrut (today Adiyaman, Turkey), the most impressive of all the tomb sites, is that of Antiochos I of Commagene (69-34 BC).
