A key principle of a functioning democracy is privacy for citizens and transparency of those in power. Have you noticed we have the opposite? Most algorithms are in service of customers who want "predictions" that transfer of power from the poor to the powerful.

I may sound a bit naive, but as I read more academic papers in fields that I work in, I realize that they tend to cite academic papers more than blog posts even if there are better blog posts than the cited papers. It makes sense, but just noticing more specifically first hand.

I find that people who believe we might be living in a computer simulation tend to be people who I could imagine being simulated most easily by a computer.

I can imagine an AI that can beat humans at games, but for most of us, life IS NOT just a game. Games require fairly clear parameters for winning. Personally, I don't think of life as something I'm trying to "win" at. I wonder if an AI can have Ikigai? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikigai
