@TwitterSupport @elonmusk It seems to me the result of an algorithm run amok, rather than human decision. Wife asks me if she should just give up, delete the pic and move on. I say no--because how many others have been victimized by the same stupid algo? This is a problem, and it needs to be fixed.

Remember learning how NSA employees spy on their crushes (LOVEINT)? Now even your local cops are hacking accounts -- and blackmailing young women with the stolen nudes. Prosecutors recommended “a sentence at the lowest end of the sentencing guidelines." leoweekly.com/2022/10/feds-e…

On the @11thHour with Brian Williams, many were surprised to hear I sought pardon for #RealityWinner and others, rather than myself. But the President can end the war on whistleblowers at the stroke of a pen—and should. Watch here: youtube.com/watch?v=zQUEbp…

One history of the Internet is the history of the individual's disempowerment, as governments and businesses both sought to monitor and profit from what had fundamentally been a user-to-user or peer-to-peer relationship. (Read the rest here: edwardsnowden.substack.com/p/lifting-the-…)

It's not OK to algorithmically blackmail parents into eradicating family photos. The idea that some random engineer's half-baked code forces you to make a choice between keeping your account or deleting your baby photos is straight-up dystopian.

We (@FreedomofPress) published a report today on the unprecedented number of journalists arrested in the United States this year, and I encourage everyone working in media to read it. The numbers are staggering. 1200% increase! freedom.press/news/2020-repo…

Maybe after today's story that the government literally plotted to murder Assange, this White House will finally stop stonewalling the press pool over the dubious charges against him—the single biggest press freedom case in the United States. mediaite.com/tv/i-emailed-y…

If the Patriot Act was produced in a flash, behind the scenes secret systems for mass surveillance were being built at even greater speed. One of the most audacious plans was drafted by nightfall on the day of 11 September itself. theguardian.com/world/2021/sep…

You will not find this level of attention paid to the biggest press freedom case in a generation on TV, because of the neocorporate omertà that regulates Access Journalism. It's a rare event. The United Nation's Special Rapporteur on Torture is among those speaking. twitter.com/kthalps/status…

This. Sure, taking a phone to a protest is unsafe, but *going* to a protest is unsafe, because the problem isn't your phone—it is the decades of authoritarianism that made it a weapon. Your phone will be safe when everyone is safe, and that won't come without taking some risk. twitter.com/sarahjeong/sta…

@InsiderEng Bonus points for those who notice the absolutely massive train station and shopping complex full of cameras *directly behind* these knuckleheads' "safe house," which definitely sounds like a plausible place for a hunted whistleblower to live. Deeply embarrassed for these people.
