Note to self: don’t try to light a cigarette on a windy day with alcohol gel all over your hands.

#GenocideAmendment latest: in their desperation to keep this out of the courts, the Government is hosting a (very rare) briefing for *all peers* on Monday. The only lawyer they could find to brief against us was Wolfson. They tried Lords Hope and Pannick who told them where to go

Thanks for having me @MaajidNawaz
After Thursday’s #Uyghur Genocide vote we need to:
1. Sanction Chen Quanguo
2. Form an alliance of democracies to address the China challenge
3. Audit and reduce our dependency on China

Loved catching up with former @ipacglobal Co-Chair, now Deputy Foreign Minister of Lithuania @Adomenas at the Warsaw Security Forum.
Our last meeting was in #HongKong 2019. Hard to believe how much things have changed. 🇬🇧🇱🇹🇭🇰

This amendment meets all Government’s red lines while giving the UK a mechanism for authoritative genocide determination. Time to breathe some life into the Genocide Convention and stand with the #Uyghur people.
965
If the Government was *really* opposed to the #GenocideAmendment because it “gives power to courts” they would have accepted the amendment below which we gave them over a week ago. They didn’t.
966
You really wanna do this? twitter.com/SpokespersonCH…
967
For the uninitiated, the UK’s policy for decades has been that we WILL NOT use the word “Genocide” and WILL NOT act under the Genocide Convention unless the courts determine it.
But this is not possible through the UN because of China’s veto.
Amendment offers a way through.
968
Catching up with @trussliz’s strong Mansion House speech.
Absolutely correct to identify the economic bottom-line as 🇨🇳 key vulnerability.
This rhetoric has to be brought to life. 🇬🇧 must be willing to reduce our dependency on 🇨🇳 together with international partners.
