Daughter had a nasty fall yesterday at school, so I had to take her to work. Two years ago an anonymous HKer sent this 🐸 from 🇭🇰 (symbol has different connotations in HK/ not associated with ‘hate’ in any way). It was the only thing that comforted her!

#NEW: I’ve now heard multiple reports that #HK activists nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize are suffering reprisals (bullying/threats) in custody as a direct result of the nomination.

With the spotlight fixed on them now, hopefully more attention will be paid to their circumstances behind bars.

#NEW @WTA REFUSING to host events in China until #PengShuai case is resolved. Have to hand it to them. While other sports associations pay lip service to human rights and gender quality, Steve Simon’s WTA is practising what it preaches. twitter.com/SafeguardDefen…

Some “free speech” from you about the #Uyghur genocide would be welcome. twitter.com/elonmusk/statu…

Catching up with @trussliz’s strong Mansion House speech. Absolutely correct to identify the economic bottom-line as 🇨🇳 key vulnerability. This rhetoric has to be brought to life. 🇬🇧 must be willing to reduce our dependency on 🇨🇳 together with international partners.

I would love to see Hong Kongers represented in the 🇬🇧 Parliament. Anyone from the HK diaspora community who wants to do this, I’m always here to try to help or advise. twitter.com/hkfp/status/15…

twitter.com/AP/status/1523…

Uh-oh. New Chief Executive accidentally comes out for #HongKong Independence. “The result makes me realise how much everyone loves Hong Kong as a COUNTRY” (emphasis added) Someone report him to the NSL police? Source: Insight News twitter.com/lukedepulford/…

Wow. The ENTIRE G7 SLAMS #HongKong coronation of John Lee. 👏 Now, how about some actions to back up those words. #StandwithHK

I’ll try to look into this, but I’d be wary of spreading this kind of story until verified, as it might cause unnecessary alarm among people who are considering leaving #HK in already desperate circumstances. twitter.com/DiploMuggle/st…

Just so sad. Will the arrest of Cardinal Zen - a great man - be enough to get @Pontifex to break his silence on the assault against #HongKong’s freedoms? Don’t hold your breath. 😞 twitter.com/XinqiSu/status…

#NOW @MPIainDS has been granted an urgent question in @HouseofCommons on the arrests of Cardinal Zen, Margaret Ng, Denise Ho!@ipacglobal @hk_watch Follow here: parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/c4…

Cardinal Zen in 2020. He turned up to see @Pontifex to discuss the urgent situation in #HongKong and was denied an audience. A pic that may define this Pontificate.

twitter.com/charlesmok/sta…

telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/…

Please support ⁦@badiucao⁩ whose gives so much of his work for free. patreon.com/badiucao Finally meeting in person after 2+ years of collaboration.

‼️I think this is a REALLY IMPORTANT moment for the #HK democracy movement. Immensely proud of @ipacglobal’s HK lead @chungchingkwong calling out the failure of the democratic world to defend Hong Kong’s way of life and autonomy.

The UN Xinjiang visit is has gone from intrepid investigation to #OperationOstrich. Thanks ⁦@ABCWorldNews⁩ for covering.

Wow. From Lord (Chris) Patten’s diaries in Oct 1992, published in ⁦@Telegraph⁩ today. The British betrayal in Hong Kong runs deep, and they’re paying the price for it now.
821
#BREAKING Human Rights chief ⁦@mbachelet⁩ “unable” to assess #Uyghur human rights abuses, frames them in the context of “anti-terrorism” and “de radicalisation” measures (which they aren’t).
822
Wow. It’s very clear which questions have been provided to @mbachelet in advance. She is reading from a script in response to PRC state media questions. Shocking.
823
Killer question from @lauriechenwords
824
Key takeaways: - COVID used as an excuse. - Beijing’s “anti-terrorism” narrative adopted (😦) - Admission of Potemkin style prison visit. - No engagement with #XinjiangPoliceFiles Hard to see @antonioguterres can reappoint her in September. A catastrophic dereliction of duty.

Matter-of-fact (very good) response from @trussliz. Basically: “pointless investigation, get on with publishing your report”. twitter.com/lukedepulford/…
