Today I had the opportunity to meet some of our bravest men & women in uniform, our paratroopers. Their courage in the line of duty each day strengthens #Taiwan’s defense capabilities and our ability to provide emergency rescue & relief services.

I was proud to attend the launch ceremony today for #Taiwan’s first domestically developed 4,000-tonne offshore patrol vessel. This gives our Coast Guard an advanced, fully equipped frigate that will help protect the nation & provide humanitarian assistance on the high seas.

The 24-hour Dunnan Eslite was a landmark of Taiwanese bookstore culture, & I speak for all book lovers in #Taiwan when I say that it will be sorely missed. But I’m sure the Eslite legacy will live on in Taiwan’s vibrant culture of freedom, openness, & diversity.
